Series of Events Promoting Vietnam – EU Diplomatic Relations
Taking place from June 6th to 8th at The Hotel, Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, the series of events under the program to promote diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the European Union (EU) featured seminars, conferences, bilateral meetings, and cooperation agreements between Vietnamese government agencies and various organizations representing the overseas Vietnamese community across Europe.
On June 7th, the Conference on « Mobilizing the Resources of the Vietnamese Community in the EU to Promote Vietnam – EU Cooperation » was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium, and the Vietnamese Delegation to the European Union, as part of a broader program celebrating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the EU (1990–2025).
The Vietnamese community in Europe has made significant contributions throughout the history of national development. Despite many challenges, overseas Vietnamese in Europe have built a strong and reputable community through unity, actively contributing to the advancement of Vietnam–EU relations over the past 35 years.
Representing the delegation of Vietnam Cultural and Tourism Association (VNCT), Ms. Lê Y Linh, President of the Association and Director of Vietravel France, and Ms. Lê Thị Diễm Hằng, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Association, attended the event.
The conference welcomed nearly 500 delegates, including 13 delegations from Vietnam, 6 delegations from embassies, and 36 delegations of businesspeople, intellectuals, researchers, and experts from the Vietnamese diaspora in 20 European countries.
VNCT strengthen its bilateral cooperation towards the development of Vietnam’s tourism and culture
During the discussion sessions of the conference, 25 presentations were delivered by representatives from government agencies and localities, focusing on three main topics: Trade and Investment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and Culture and Tourism.
Ms. Lê Y Linh, President of VNCT, gave a short speech highlighting both opportunities and challenges in promoting Vietnam’s tourism and culture in the European market.
The Vietnamese community abroad can leverage their cultural understanding to act as a bridge, supporting the introduction of local development projects and facilitating access to EU partners.
In the field of science, technology, and innovation, Vietnamese experts in Europe can provide consultancy, share insights and experience in training and research programs and models, while also serving as connectors to foster collaborative projects between the EU and Vietnam.
In terms of culture and tourism, each overseas Vietnamese serves as a « cultural ambassador » of Vietnam in their host country. Through their activities abroad, they help introduce and promote Vietnamese culture, attract European tourists to Vietnam, and support connections between localities with tourism potential and Vietnamese-owned travel companies in Europe.
Also within the framework of the conference, the VNCT delegation — Ms. Lê Y Linh and Ms. Lê Thị Diễm Hằng — signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with several Vietnamese local authorities, including Quang Binh Province, Bac Lieu Province, and Thua Thien – Hue Province.
In addition to the MoU signings, the VNCT delegation also held bilateral meetings and exchanges with local government representatives from Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Binh, Quang Ninh, Bac Lieu, Thua Thien – Hue, and Phu Yen Provinces. These meetings opened up significant opportunities for cooperation and the overall development of Vietnam’s tourism sector, as well as aligning with VNCT’s long-term strategic orientation.
At the conference, 154 bilateral meetings took place between Vietnamese organizations and associations in Europe and working delegations from Vietnam. During these exchanges, 26 cooperation documents were discussed and shared, reflecting the desire for collaboration between Vietnamese ministries, agencies, local authorities, and the overseas Vietnamese community in Europe.
This conference served as a platform not only for Vietnamese associations in Europe to engage with domestic institutions, but also to strengthen connections among themselves. Through these interactions, the event fostered greater solidarity, mutual support, and the promotion of a compassionate, united image of the Vietnamese community abroad.
